THE OCTANOL-WATER PARTITION COEFFICIENT (KOW) IS A MEASURE OF THE EQUILIBRIUM CONCENTRATION OF A COMPOUND BETWEEN OCTANOL AND WATER THAT INDICATES THE POTENTIAL FOR PARTITIONING INTO SOIL ORGANIC MATTER (I.E., A HIGH KOWINDICATES A COMPOUND WHICH WILL PREFERENTIALLY PARTITION INTO SOIL ORGANIC MATTER RATHER THAN WATER).THE VOLATILE CONSTITUENTS OF THE ESSENTIAL OIL OF BALLOTANIGRAL.GROWING WILD IN KURDISTAN-IRAN WERE INVESTIGATED BY GC AND GC/MS TECHNIQUE. NINTEEN COMPOUNDS, REPRESENTING TOWLVE (98%) OF THE TOTAL OIL WERE IDENTIFIED. THE MAIN COMPONENTS WERE: M-CYMENE (6.05%), 1, 8- CINEOLE (3.44%), ALPHA-PHELLANDRENE (0.90%), LINALOOL (1.70%), MENTHONE (14.70%), 1-ISOPROPYL-4- METHYL-CYCLOHEXEN-3-ENOL (4.09%), 6-ISOPROPYL-2, 3-DIMETHYL-PHENOL (1.18%), THYMOL (64.23%), 1-METHYLNAPHTALEN (0.13%), 2, 3-DIETHYL-5, 6-DIMETHYLPYRAZINE (0.32%), EUGENOL (0.92%), CARVACRYL ACETATE (0.34%), MOST AND LEAST OF PERCENT WAS RELEVANT TO THYMOL AND 1-METHYL NAPHTHALENE RESPECTIVELY. THE PROPERTIES RELATIONSHIP WERE STUDIES FOR THE LOGARITHM OF CALCULATED OCTANOL-WATER PARTITIONING COEFFICIENTS (LOGKOW) AND THE LETHAL DOSE CONCENTRATION (LC50) IN THE VOLATILE CONSTITUENTS OF THE ESSENTIAL OIL OF BALLOTANIGRA L. GROWING. THE INTERESTING RESULTS OF CONCERNING AMONG LOGKOW AND LC50 FOR THESE COMPOUNDS ARE PRESENTED.
